Frequently Asked Questions
Development Questions
Are all the vests working yet?The only vest which we have left is the Vest Rosh Chodesh that is mentioned by the
Bach. All of the other vestos are working, though we still have to work on some of the halachic
options concerning other ways of calculating those vests. (See the next question.)

Which other halachic options still have to be set?
Normally the only date that counts in regards to creating a permanent vest is the day
that the period began. However if a lady's period began following a pattern for two times in a row
and the third time it began early, for example, if her period began on the 25th for two months in a
row, and the third month she her period began on the 23rd, but it continued through the 25th, this
is called seeing from a mayan pasuach. In such a case she would have created a permanent vest
kavua. Other than the aforementioned Vest Rosh Chodesh, this is the last halachic option that is
yet to be programmed.

What else is on your list of things to do?
Besides Vest Rosh Chodesh and mayan pasuach, we also hope to enable SMS reminders in
the near future. We also would like to redo the video tutorial. Our long term goals include
allowing a user to calculate all (or some) of the vestos herself and then just check it against the
automated calculations to make sure that she was correct. This however will be a long way down the
road.

Using the Mikvah Calendar
How do I enter a period?Click on the day and the onah that the period started or ended. A dialog box will pop
up with 3 options in it: Period Started, Period Ended, and Kesem. Select the option and click
'OK'.
How do I remove a period?
Click on the symbol of that period on the calendar. A message box will pop up asking
if you are sure that you want to delete that start/end of a period. Click 'OK'.
Why do the days on the 'older' calendar start with the night?
The days of the week of the older calendar are the Jewish days of the week. Therefore,
day follows night. For example, if you want to input a period that started on 'Saturday night', you
have to go to the following Sunday and click on the night onah.

Questions About Vestos
What is an 'onah'?A Jewish day starts and ends at night-fall. Each day is divided into two onahs: night
and day.

What is a 'vest'?
A vest is the day and onah of an expected period.

When are one's vests?
There are three types of permanent vests, and three types of temporary vest. The
possible permanent vests are: Vest HaChodesh (Day of Month), Vest Haflagah (Interval), and Vest
HaShavuah (Day of Week). The temporary vests are Vest HaChodesh (Day of Month), Vest Haflagah
(Interval), and Vest Beinunis (Standard).

What is the difference between a permanent vest and a temporary vest?
If the day of a lady's period follows a pattern three times in a row, she has
established a permanent vest. If a lady has a permanent vest and her last period came at the
expected time, the only vest that she has is that permanent vest. If the day of her period did not
follow that established pattern for three periods in a row, she has uprooted her permanent vest. If
a lady does not have a permanent vest, she has the three temporary vests.

How does the Vest HaChodesh (Day of Month) work?
A lady who got her period for three months in a row on the same day of the (Jewish)
month (and during the same onah) will have a permanent Vest HaChodesh. If she subsequently passed
three consecutive months and did not get her period on that day of the month, she has uprooted her
permanent Vest HaChodesh. If she doesn't have a permanent vest or if the last period did not fit
into the pattern of her permanent vest, she will have a temporary Vest HaChodesh. It will be during
the following month, on the day of the month in which she got her most recent period.

How does the Vest Haflagah (Interval) work?
A lady who got her period three times in a row with the same amount of days in between
each period (and during the same onah) has created a permanent Vest Haflagah. If she subsequently
got her period three times in a row with a different amount of days in between, she has uprooted her
permanent Vest Haflagah. If she doesn't have a permanent vest or if the last period did not fit
into the pattern of her permanent vest, she will have a temporary Vest Haflagah. She has to
calculate how many days were in between her last two periods, and her temporary Vest Haflagah will
that many days after her most recent period.

How does the Vest HaShavua (Day of Week) work?
A lady who got her period three times on the same day of the week, with the same amount
of weeks in between the periods (and during the same onah), has created a permanent Vest HaShavua.
If she subsequently passed that amount of weeks three times and did not get her period on that day
of the week, she has uprooted her permanent Vest HaShavua. There is no such thing as a temporary
vest HaShavua.

How does the Vest Beinunis (Standard) work?
The Vest Beinunis is 30 days (according to one opinion it is 31 days) after one's most
recent period. A lady only has a Vest Beinunis only if she does not have a permanent vest.

Are there any variations of these vests?
There are two variations of a permanent Vest HaChodesh: Vest HaChodesh L'Dilug and Vest
Sirug. There is one variation of a permanent Vest Haflagah: Vest Haflagah L'Dilug.

What is a Vest HaChodesh L'Dilug?
If a lady got her period on a certain day of the month, and the next month she got her
period on the following day, and the next month she got her period on the day following her second
period, she has created a Vest HaChodesh L'Dilug - a Vest HaChodesh that skips. The amount of days
that she skips each month can be any number as long as it is the same amount of days that she
skipped the previous month.
Please note that MikvahCal.com calculates if a Vest Dilug has been creates, however it just shows
a warning sign to speak to a Rabbi as opposed to calculating when the vest will fall out. This is
due to the fact that there are many intricate halachic problems that arise in uprooting and
re-establishing a dormant Vest Dilug that are not addressed by the earlier poskim. Therefore there
are many halachic opinions in how to deal with it. Hence, we have decided not to include it.

What is a Vest Sirug?
If a lady got her period on a certain day of the month, and then a certain amount of
months later she got her period on that same day of the month, and then the same amount of months
later she got her period on that day of the month, she has created a Vest Sirug - a Vest HaChodesh
that skips months. The amount of months that she skips can be either two or three.

What is a Vest Haflagah L'Dilug?
If a lady got her period a certain amount of days after her last period, and she gets
her next period that amount of days later plus one, and she gets her next period that amount of days
as between the last two periods plus one, she has created a Vest Haflagah L'Dilug - a Vest Haflagah
that skips. The amount of days that she skips each month can be any number as long as it is the
same amount of days that she skipped the previous month.
Please note that MikvahCal.com calculates if a Vest Dilug has been creates, however it just shows

Trouble Shooting
Why aren't any vests showing up in my calendar?Make sure that you have set up you halachic preferences. You must go to the Halachic Preferences page at least once before any vest will appear in your
calendar.
Why aren't my Vest Haflagos showing up?
You may have selected either to include seeing from a mayan pasuach or that a Vest
Haflagah is calculated by the amount of days from the end of one period to the beginning of the
next. If this is so, make sure that all of your entered periods have a start date and end date. If
any period is missing a beginning or end, no haflagos will be calculated.

I haven't received any emails to remind me of my upcoming vests.
Double check to make sure that your email preferences are set properly on the Email Preferences page. If you selected your own 'From Name', 'From
Address' or 'Return Address' make sure that you check your spam folder as many email clients will
realize that the email is coming from one address and made to look like it's coming from a different
address. This is a typical way that scammers try to get people to think that their emails are
legitimate. Therefore, most email programs will automatically place the message straight into the
spam folder.
